We are launching a 24-month project on the topic of tax justice (project duration: 1st April 2015 – 28th February 2017). The project is part of our long-term campaign for sustainable use of public funds. We announce a job opening for Tax Justice Campaigner.
Context of the position
The topic is relatively new to the general public in Bulgaria. Our work will include analysis, design and promotion of ideas for reforms in the Bulgarian tax system, of the multilateral tax agreements and of closing the legal gaps related to abuse of public funds from off-shore registered legal entities. The work of the Campaigner will combine analysis, investigative activities, promotion of the findings of the project and advocacy for the proposed reforms to the general public and to the decision makers.
Many of the loopholes to avoid paying taxes are only available to a certain narrow circle of elites. The possibility for tax avoidance has led globally to annual losses in public benefits of hundreds of billions of euros. Za Zemiata aims to map within the project cases of tax injustice in developing countries and to draw parallels with the cases in Bulgaria and Europe. On the basis of these findings we will be demanding a reform in the tax system of Bulgaria, EU member states and the international tax treaties shaping tax system and containing potential to close the loopholes.
Deadline for applying: 17 March 2015.
